Roadside Historical Markers
Along what is known as the Lincoln Highway or Old Highway 40, travelers can find markers telling the famous story of the journey of the Donner Party and others during the time of pioneer emigration west. Grab a friend and some snacks, and explore the old country.
Museums and Stories from Our Ancestors
Thanks to the Truckee-Donner Historical Society, much of the area's history has been preserved. Go on an adventure to Joseph Research Cabin (The Gateway Cabin) or spend a day at the Old Jail Museum. For another historical experience, pay homage the Donner Cross and the Schaffer Cemetery. Here's a list of some of our favorite spots:
