Rail Jam? What is a Rail Jam? Well, since you asked … A Rail Jam is a jib contest (jibbing is technical riding on non-standard surfaces, usually where riders perform tricks, referring to the action of jumping, sliding or riding on top of objects other than snow). Skiers and Snowboarders perform tricks on rails, boxes, pipes, towers, wall rides, etc.
So now that you know, come check out the Butterbox Rail Jam at Northstar Resort on April 15 from 10AM-1PM. Fans can watch the mid-mountain competition from the Lodge at Big Springs deck, where Northstar’s famous Bloody Mary’s and Irish coffees are always ready poured, among other options, along with a live DJ that will jam spring tunes while the jam is in full swing.
Registration is 7:30AM to 11AM. The 10 and under category start at 10AM, and other age categories at 11AM. Entry fee is $10. There are currently three divisions competing: 16 and older, 11-15 year olds, and the little shredders, 10 and under. It’s exciting to watch the level of expertise and talent from these youth – some of them years from even being able to drive a car! Competitors have a chance to a win a prize purse.
