The 26th Annual Cushing Crossing is a colorful affair every spring as skiing and snowboarding competitors get decked out in costumes of their choice – in true Pain McShlonkey style – from superman capes to angel wings, they come flying down the mountain to skim across Cushing Pond as the grand finale and last hurrah to the season. It's a local Tahoe favorite. It's a nod to winter and one to spring with the weather warming – a bittersweet time when skiers and riders don't want to say good-bye to the ski season, but they definitely want to go out in style. If you've never made it out for the Cushing Crossing, it's a must-do for the season! The mountain is slushy. The t-shirts are out in full effect.
Except not this year.
In fact, on April 20, the Cushing Crossing was rescheduled for April 30 due to inclement weather. And there you have it: a big spring storm swept through and the resorts got another foot of snow to add to their count. So on went the powder gear and winter returned for just a brief moment.
