What an incredible winter we've had in Truckee! After several years of lackluster winters (also known as the California drought) we have been more than thrilled to play catch up when it comes to powder skiing. And boy have we seen powder! Let's talk totals:
Last week the Truckee-Tahoe area saw seven feet of snow in seven days – mind you, we're headed into March, not December. With incessant storms and heavy precipitation the annual average snowfall of 450 inches has been blasted out of the water by this year's record snow. So far, the season total at Squaw Valley is 47 feet. Mother Nature dumped 15 feet of snow alone in the month of February at Squaw Valley!
With months of snow still possible in the region, it was announced this week
that ski operations will be open until July 4th at Squaw Valley. And our guess is there will be other resorts who follow suit. So other than skiing, riding, snowshoeing and snowmobiling, what else are you going to add to the list this spring while in Truckee? Here are a couple ideas!
North Lake Tahoe Snowfest – March 3-12, 2017: It's a 10-day packed festival of winter activities, parties, parades, on-snow events, winter sports, races, fashion shows, hot wing eating contests, pancake breakfasts with local firefighters. It's the best thing for the young and old to enjoy together!
The Second City Comedy Show – March 3, 2017: The Second City Comedy Troupe launched the careers of the likes of Bill Murray, Steve Carell, Tina Fey, and other celebrities well-known today. Arts for the Schools presents Second City for an evening of hilarity. Be sure to secure your tickets soon!
WinterWonderGrass Festival – March 31-April 2, 2017: A magical winter festival held in Colorado and Lake Tahoe (Squaw Valley) this three-day festival combines lively local, regional and national bluegrass with craft beers and local cuisine.
