A glass of wine and ice carving go well together, don't you think? They just jive. For the past six years, Truckee River Winery has hosted a fun addition to the North Lake Tahoe Snowfest with their Wine n' Ice Carving Competition in Truckee. This year's event benefits the Truckee River Watershed Council, which works to help fund and implement ways to preserve and restore Truckee's watershed.
The event itself is pretty straight-forward, yet so fun. Competitors register for the event weeks ahead of time, and this year's carving competition has a central theme/focus required of the competitor. In fact, this year's theme begs the question, "how does the Truckee River inspire you?"
While competitors manage the task of carving ice sculptures, guests can enjoy a glass of wine at the Truckee River Winery, as well as special bites and treats from local eateries. There is also a local DJ spinning at the event and some outdoor winter games for those ready to brave the cold.
Registration for the event was free this year but has now closed. The top three contestants will win an assortment of prizes. Grand Prize of a trophy and vertical Truckee River Winery awaits the mastermind behind the winning sculpture!
